JOB DESCRIPTION

See which job description suits the direction that you are looking to take in the industry.  It’s important to be licensed if you plan on incorporating skin care, hair, or nails along with makeup artistry. Although it is not necessary to obtain a certification or license, it does give you more credibility and allows you to add on more services in the future.

MAKEUP ARTIST

Makeup artists use cosmetics to regulate the appearance of the face. Generally the aim is to enhance the customer’s features, however there are many special sorts of make-up artistry. Special effects makeup artists often create looks which can be deliberately unattractive using products like prosthetics and adhesives. A make-up artist’s duty, however, is limited to external makeup applications. Makeup artists often use cosmetics commonly to alter the facial appearance, rather than the general image of the client.

COSMETOLOGIST

Cosmetologists have similar talents as makeup artists, but additionally services they offer require more than makeup. These consist of skincare, nail care, and hair styling. Cosmetologists have an impact on the client’s typical overall beauty which includes makeup. As an example, they might do manicures and facials, which make-upartists cannot provide without additional schooling. Not every cosmetologist chooses to specialize in hair, makeup, and nails, but they choose to focus on specializing on educating others.

ESTHETICIAN

Cosmetologists are usually trained in nail, skin and hair care while estheticians focus completely on skin care technique. This often means that estheticians have a deeper knowledge of skin care treatments than cosmetologists, but curricula will vary from school to school and standards change from state to state, so do your homework before choosing the program for you - unless you really like skin care and have an extreme aversion to hair and nails. Then it's pretty safe to stick with esthetics.
